Jacques Raymond Daniel Lépine

Graduated in Physics from Instituto de Física (1967) of São Paulo University, master in Nuclear Physics from São Paulo University (1970). and PhD. from University of Paris VII (Doctorat dEtat,1977). Was Professor at the University of São Paulo, retired in 2021, but with a plan to keep his activities. Was President of the Brazilian Astronomical Society and was Director of the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of São Paulo. Is a member of the Academy of Sciences of São Paulo State, of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, and of the World Academy of Sciences (TWA). Has experience in Astronomy, focusing on Radio Astronomy, acting on the following subjects: Galactic Structure, Interstellar Matter, Open Clusters, Star Formation. Was one of the two authors of the paper reporting the discovery of the first extragalactic Water Vapor "Megamaser", in NGC4945 (Nature, 1979). Has worked on the development of astronomical instruments, like the Soar Telescope Integral Field Unit Spectrograph.
