Maria Oliveira de Souza completed her doctorate in Physiological Sciences, concentration area Renal Physiology, from the University of São Paulo (1999) with a sandwich from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine -USA. She did her postdoctoral work at Johns Hopkins University-USA, working as a research fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology. She is currently Associate Professor 3 at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of São Paulo, Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Sciences - Human Physiology and Vice-President of the Postgraduate Committee of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at USP. She has experience in the area of #8203;#8203;Organ and System Physiology, with an emphasis on Renal Pathophysiology. His research group aims to understand the molecular and functional mechanisms involved in acute kidney failure and the progression of chronic kidney disease. In addition, it seeks to identify possible targets for the development of new therapies. She has experience in investigating factors associated with renal hemodynamics, glomerular injuries, tubular function and sodium transport proteins. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
