Jean Pierre Henry Balbaud Ometto

Senior Researcher at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) since 2009, where he has served, since 2020, as Head of the Division of Strategic Projects 3 (DIPE3). He was Coordinator of the Earth System Science Center (CCST/INPE) between 2013 and 2019. He coordinates and develops interdisciplinary research in the fields of ecology, biogeochemistry, and Earth system science, with an emphasis on the integration of global environmental change, ecosystem services, and public policies. He is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Earth System Science (PG-CST/INPE) and a collaborating professor in the Graduate Program of the Center for Environmental Studies and Research (NEPAM/UNICAMP).He is engaged in various initiatives and institutions, such as: Vice Coordinator of the Brazilian Network of Research on Global Climate Change (Rede CLIMA); Coordinator of the AdaptaBrasil MCTI Platform; FAPESP Representative to the Belmont Forum Consortium of Funding Agencies; and Member of the Binational Council of the French-Brazilian Center on Amazonian Biodiversity (CFBBA). He also serves on the Executive Council of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).He was appointed to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability), for the AR5 and AR6 cycles, and to the IPCC Task Force on Greenhouse Gas Inventories. He was also appointed to IPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) for the Regional and Sub-Regional Assessment Reports, as well as the Nexus and Global Environmental Outlook 5 synthesis reports, coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).Between 2006 and 2020, he represented Brazil on the Executive Council of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), served as Regional Director of the International Nitrogen Initiative (INI), and was a member of the American Geophysical Unions Committee on International Participation (AGU-CIP). He was the technical coordinator of the Cerrado Vegetation Monitoring Project under the Forest Investment Program (FIP/World Bank). He also served as a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (BPBES) and of the Advisory Committee of the Paraíba Valley Ecological Corridor Association.
