Abstract

The microstructures and the phase transitions of as-cast Fe-Ni-Co alloys were studied using different experimental techniques. The results showed that a solid solution is formed at room temperature and then it is decomposed during heating by the precipitation of the Fe3Ni phase. This Ni-rich phase precipitation process enriches the precipitate surrounding in Co atoms. The Co atoms then diffuses forming a concentration gradient. This process is enthalpy driven and dependent on the concentration of Fe, while the reaction temperatures are dependent on the concentrations of Ni and Co. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
