Abstract

This paper presents a method for estimating the black-box arc parameters using genetic algorithm. The proposed method is applied to represent a DC short-circuit in a railway system protected by a High-Speed Circuit Breaker (HSCB). The simulated cases were compared with experimental data, and the results show very good agreement between model predictions and experiments. This method could potentially be used by HSCB's manufacturers to extract and provide arc model parameters to end users based on their test results. (AU)
