Abstract

Acetylmethionine (AM) is a lipotropic drug used in several pharmaceutical formulations. The objective of this research is to develop and validate a capillary zone electrophoretic method for determination of AM in injectable solutions and its application in routine analysis for quality control. The capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) determination was performed using an uncoated fused-silica capillary with 75 mu m i.d. and a total length of 402 cm (30 cm effective length) with a buffer solution containing 20 mmol/L sodium tetraborate, pH 9.2. The applied voltage was +25 kV and the sample was injected hydrodynamically at 0.5 psi for 5 s. The detection was made by ultraviolet (UV) absorption at 200 urn. The method is precise, selective, accurate and robust, and was successfully applied for quantitative determination of AM in injectable solutions. (AU)
