The Newton Fund is part of the UK’s official development assistance. Its aim is to develop science and innovation partnerships that promote the economic development and welfare of developing countries. To fulfill its aims, the Newton Fund has delivery partners as the RCUK, British Council, UK Academies, Innovate UK, Royal Society and Met Office. The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) is a partner in Brazil. The agreement with the Newton Fund aims at implementing scientific and technical cooperation among researchers from the United Kingdom and the State of São Paulo, by means of funding joint research projects. Wishing to launch funding opportunities for researchers in the State of São Paulo, FAPESP has established cooperation agreements with some of these institutions, sometimes including CONFAP in the Brazilian side.
