Abstract

In this project, we intend to use the single-pulse (SP) and the double-pulse (DP) LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) technique for detection of heavy metals in leachate liquid samples. Samples will be artificially contaminated with well-determined concentrations of the following metals: Pb, As, Cd, Mn. We intend to be able to solve the spectral lines of these elements and to correlate the peak intensities with reference concentration measurements made by the ICP-OES technique. With these spectra, we will construct calibration curves and determine the LIBS limits of detection for each species comparing the two techniques (SP x DP). The project also aims to create a faster, robust and economical for sample analysis compared to traditional techniques (ICP-OES and EDS) currently used. (AU)
