Nutritional supplementation for suckling calves evaluating performance, health and thermographic detection in immunological challenge

Abstract

The husbandry and nutrition of young calves are important for the productive system because it has an impact on the future productive potential of milk. The project aims to study 1) the performance and health of suckling calves with supplementation of selenium, iron and vitamin E and 2) the applicability of the use of infrared thermography in the capture of differences in temperature caused by infectious processes. The experiment will be carried out in the experimental farm of the Polo Regional Centro Leste in Ribeirão Preto / SP using 45 newborn Holstein calves up to 60 days of age, submitted to the following treatment: C = control milk substitute; SS = milk substitute with supplemental organic selenium + vitamin E; SSFe = milk substitute with supplemental organic selenium + vitamin E + Fe chelate. Performance, blood and immunological parameters will be monitored during suckling and during immunological challenge with bovine sadness. And will be made thermography images verifying the change in the peripheral temperature of the calves with bovine sadness and correlate with the rectal temperature. (AU)
