Abstract

Main: Evaluate the potential diabetogenic and lipogenic effects in the use of the contraceptiveimplant of etonogestrel (Implanon®). Material and methods: A prospective cohort study ofhealthy and sexually active women attending the Family Planning Outpatient Clinic of theUnicamp - CAISM, volunteers using Implanon®. Socio-demographic conditions (age, schooling, social status, marital status and number of live children), Body Mass Index (BMI), waistcircumference, waist-hip ratio (WHR), homeostasis model of insulin resistance (HDL), LowDensity Lipoproteins (LDL), triglycerides (TG), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartateaminotransferase (AST), glycemia, insulin, interleukin 1 (IL- 1), interleukin 6 (IL- 6), interleukin10 (IL-10), PCR (C-reactive protein), tumor necrosis factor - ± (TNF - ±), leptin, adiponectin andghrelin at the beginning of treatment and at 12 months. It will require the inclusion of 146women. An exploratory analysis of the data will be carried out through the descriptive measures. For the comparison of the categorical data, the chi-square test with significance level of 5% or,when necessary, Fisher's exact test will be used. For the comparison of the variables evaluated atthe beginning and at 12 months of the study, the ANOVA test for repeated factors will be used. The variables will be ranked if there is no normal distribution of the data. To investigate theassociation between the variables that evaluate the diabetogenic and lipidogenic effects, theSpearman correlation test, and the non-parametric Mann Whitney test for the dichotomous variables will be applied.
