Abstract

The study will be conducted through four experimental trials. In trials 1 and 2 the effects of extrusion of soybean or soybean meal at 75 ° C; 115 ° C and 155 ° C on nutritional value, ileal and total tract digestibility of nutrients and energy in piglets will be evaluated. For each trial, 40 male castrated pigs (8.0 kg initial BW) will be housed in a randomized complete block design experiment with 5 treatments, 8 replications per treatment, and 1 pig per experimental unit. In trial 3 the effect of increasing levels of extruded soybean meal replacing dietary blood plasma will be evaluated. In trial 4 the effect of increasing levels of extruded soybean replacing conventional soybean meal will be evaluated. In trial 3 and in trial 4, 192 and 160 21-day weaned castrated male and female pigs (6.0 kg initial BW), respectively, will be used in a randomized complete block design experiment with 6 treatments, 8 replications per treatment, and 4 pigs per experimental unit (pen). During the 42-day experimental period pigs' growth performance, nutrient and energy digestibility, diarrhea occurrence, blood parameters, immunoreactivity of soybean proteins, histomorphometry and intestinal epithelium integrity and economic viability of these replacements will be evaluated.
