Effect of protein malnutrition on hematopoiesis. marrow endothelial cell involvement and action of granulocytic colony stimulating factor (G-CSF)

Abstract

Hematopoiesis occurs in the bone marrow in regions named microenvironments, which modulate the processes of differentiation, proliferation and self-renewal of the hematopoietic stem cell (HSC). In recent years the literature has given attention to the role of medullary endothelial cells in the ability to modulate and sustain hematopoiesis associated with endothelial cells. The role of mesenchymal stem cells in the formation of these inducible microenvironments is also highlighted, either by direct contact or even by the synthesis of mediators capable of modulating hematopoietic cells. In view of the above, and based on previous data that prove that protein malnutrition compromises hematopoiesis triggering bone marrow hypoplasia with compromised hematopoietic cell production and maturation, especially of the granulocytic lineage, this project aims to uncover some regulatory aspects of hematopoiesis committed in protein malnutrition, prioritizing the study of the mechanisms involved in the participation of endothelial cells, as well as its mediation via granulocytic growth factor on the regulation of hematopoiesis.
