Sustainable management of weeds in citrus: interaction between chemical control and conservation techniques

Abstract

Brazil is the second largest citrus producer in the world and the largest producer of oranges, but its productivity indexes are below its potential and weed management may be one of the factors. In this sense, the objective of this work is to provide a more sustainable management of weeds in citrus, using the integration of control methods. The study will be divided into four experiments: (i) "Doses and number of applications of glyphosate in citrus orchard", in which the implications of the use of glyphosate in the long term will be evaluated, in interaction with the management of the ecological mower together with Urochloa ruziziensis as the cover crop; it will be evaluated, deposition of biomass in the planting line, effectiveness of weed control and the implications of the continuous use of glyphosate in the alterations of concentrations of chiquímico acid, vegetative and productive development of oranges of Pêra sweet orange; (ii) "Simulated glyphosate drift in different combinations of canopy and rootstock", in which the tolerance of different combinations of rootstock and canopy varieties to glyphosate will be evaluated, using the simulated drift method ; (iii): "Herbicide programs in interaction with Urochloa ruziziensis mulch", in which the interaction of different herbicide application modalities to be used in interaction with conventional managements (without mulch in the planting line) and conservationists (with mulch), in Hamlin sweet orange orchard; iv): "Brachiaria mulch in the suppression of weeds", in which the potential for controlling mulch of Urochloa species in the main weeds in citrus orchards, which are resistant to glyphosate, will be evaluated.
