Abstract

The first electric model to generate bio-potential oscillatory in plant was presented to the scientific community by the team of the proponent in 2011 (CABRAL et al, 2011) and recently the proponent, together with his team from Dublin City University, presented to the community scientific results that demonstrate the effective use of wireless instrumentation technology for monitoring low-cost aquatic sources (MURPHY et al., 2016). During the development of these projects, it was verified that the bioelectricity of the plants responds to several external stimuli. As the scientific literature already presents studies demonstrating the relationship between bioelectrical signals and the plant response to stimuli and since it has already been shown to the scientific community, by the proposer, that one of the characteristics of these bioelectrical responses is oscillatory, it can be inferred that the bioelectricity of plant can reflect their responses to their environment and therefore be a biosensor. Thus, advanced digital signal processing techniques can allow the extraction of information from signals and then evaluate if such information will be relevant to the cause-effect paradigm necessary to use plants as biosensors.
