Faculty development for interprofessional education

Abstract

The project aims to disseminate the theoretical-conceptual and methodological principles of Interprofessional Education (IPE) through faculty development intervention for IPE. General aim: To analyze the process of construction, implementation and evaluation of faculty development intervention for IPE. Specific aims: a) Identification of teaching skills, methods and evaluation strategies applied in faculty development for IPE; b) Development and application of a faculty development intervention for IPE. c) Evaluation of faculty development for IPE intervention. Método: Mixed methods study in four phases: 1) scoping review; 2) intervention planning through semi structured individual interviews followed by Delphi technique; 3) implementation of the intervention through a cluster randomized trial; 4) evaluation of the intervention with application of pre, post test and focus groups. The study will be placed in São Paulo countryside and in a public university. The participants will be from Unified Health Care System (SUS), health care delivers who acting as teaching facilitators and teachers from the university. Data from scoping review, semi structured interviews and focus groups will be analyzed by thematic analysis. The analysis of data from the Delphi application will be performed through the Content Validity Index, greater than or equal to 80%. Pre and post-test data will be organized in an Excel spreadsheet using descriptive and multivariate statistics. Expected results: This study will directly benefit teachers, researchers, undergraduate and postgraduate students, health care delivers, and facilitators of IPE. Consequently contributing to disseminate IPE culture in health education institutions, and in SUS, in order to training professionals able to interprofessional collaboration teamwork practice and acting from the perspective of comprehensiveness care and focused on patient care needs for quality of care. The expected results can also signal paths for the establishment and sustainability of IPE movement in the future professional practice, with the intervention carried out replication in other scenarios.
