New approaches for AC Biosusceptometry

Abstract

The use of non-invasive techniques, of low cost and harmless to the volunteers represents a challenge for the gastroenterological studies. Biomagnetic methods as the ACB have all these advantages, allowing new studies, instrumental arrangements and biological models. In the last years, the ACB was proposal to evaluate the gastrointestinal motility under physiological condition, the effect of drugs on the motor activity and development of new devices; besides that was originally employed in the pharmaceutical area. The ACB also was associated, simultaneously, with others techniques corroborating the results obtained. Imaging of the magnetic tracers and magnetic markers in the gastrointestinal tract is a novel approach to evaluate the intragastric distribution of food, controlled drug delivery systems and the drug effect on the gastrointestinal motility. In summary, this project characterizes a multidisciplinary study related to instrumentation, biophysics, and pharmaceutical technology, to enhance the knowledge about physiological and clinical parameters, aiming to establish the ACB as a technique to assess the gastrointestinal tract.
