Abstract

This in vitro study aims to evaluate saliva contamination influence on different steps of operative procedure, as well as different ways to control saliva contamination, using SEM and microtensile tests and fracture evaluation. 36 human molars will be used for SEM (n=3) and 120 for microtensile test (n=10). Both test substrates will be obtained from the same tooth in order to standardize samples. Experimental groups for both enamel and dentine are: no contamination (control G1 and G13); contamination before acid etching (CBC) with washing and drying (G2 and G14); CBC + only drying procedure to handle contamination (G3 and G15); contamination after acid etching (CAC) with washing and drying (G4 and G16); CAC only drying procedure to handle contamination (G5 and G17); CAC and re-etching (G6 and G18); contamination between two adhesive layers with washing and drying (G7 and G19); contamination between two adhesive layers with drying (G8 and G20); contamination between two adhesive layers and re-etching (G9 and G21); contamination after adhesive system application with washing and drying (G10 and G22); contamination after adhesive system application with drying (G11 and G23); contamination after adhesive system application with re-etching (G12 and G24). An all-etch adhesive system (Single Bond 2) will be used in this project to perform microtensile tests. SEM protocols will be used to prepare the samples. Obtained results will be statistically evaluated using ANOVA, after sample diagnose performed by Minitab 1.3 software. (AU)
