Abstract
Infection with S. stercoralis is potentially severe in immunosuppressed patients, especially those who use steroids. Stool traditional techniques have low sensitivity. Thus, the availability of sensitive and specific diagnostic techniques is desirable, especially in the context of immunodeficiencies, where, the identification and treatment of helminthiasis are mandatory. Therefore, it is proposed to implement and validate the techniques of culture agar plate, the indirect immunofluorescence test, the ELISA and the Western blot for the diagnosis of strongyloidiasis in patients with different forms of immunosuppression, in addition to the identification of antigens from filariform larvae of S. venezuelensis viable for the standardization of serological diagnosis. Finally we will promote the standardization of the extraction of DNA for molecular diagnosis of this helminthiasis using the PCR technique. (AU)
