Neuropsychological assessment and analysis of higher cortical functions in children with cleft lip and palate

Abstract

The neuropsychological research in children is used for measuring the performance of children in different areas of mental activity, and characterized their practice social, cultural, linguistic, ethnic, age and characteristics of each disease. Neuropsychological assessment involves the study of behavior through different resources such as interviews, standardized tests and questionnaires, which seek behavioral evidence for sensitive and accurate. This study aims to investigate the neuropsychological functions of children with cleft lip and palate, of both sexes and aged between 7 and 12 years of age. Will be used the Raven Progressive Matrices and neuropsychological examination, consisting of ten sets of tests and sub-tests that evaluates each of them specific aspects of functional brain dynamics, promoting the qualitative mapping of cortical areas and their associations, by means of motor skills perceptual, cognitive, memory and language. The records of the performances meet the scoring criteria and statistical equivalence, allowing the analysis of quantitative and qualitative results. The realization of this research will allow greater understanding of neuropsychological dysfunction in the field of cleft lip and palate. (AU)
