Abstract

The Region of Ribeirão Preto is one of the most devastated areas within the State of São Paulo (Brazil), especially those that are located next to water sources and sugarcane industries. Today, this region has 59.77% and 15.36% of its area used for the culture of the sugarcane and the urban occupation, respectively, being that only 4.39%, correspond to the natural vegetation of the region. These few remainders are, therefore, of great ecological and taxonomic value, functioning as a live collection of representative species of the local flora and of its genetic diversity, as well as bank of information concerning the structure and functioning of this type of ecosystem. In this context, the objective of the present proposal is to study the mating system, gene flow, genetic diversity and endogamy in two reproductive events of two forest species of great ecological and economic importance, Aspidosperma polyneuron (peroba-rosa) and Cariniana estrellensis (jequetiba-branco), that occurring in the remaining fragments in the region of Ribeirão Preto, in order to offer supports for in situ and ex situ conservation and management of genetic resources. For the genetic analysis it will be used molecular microssatellite markers (SSR), developed by our group for both species, since these markers are considered the most appropriate to study mating systems and gene flow, due to their co-dominant inheritance and the higher polymorphism in terms of number of alleles per locus.
