Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare the concurrent training (CT) responses on the biochemical and morphofunctional markers in obese middle-aged men. Forty obese men [body mass index (BMI) =30-34.9 kg/m²] distributed in the obese control group (OCG; n=20) and obese group CT (OCT; n=20) will be recruited. Body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular strength of individuals will be performed by anthropometric assessment, cardiopulmonary test and one maximum repetition test (1RM), respectively. Blood samples will be collected before the beginning of the study (M1), as well as after 8 (M2), 16 (M3) and 24 weeks (M4), and for each moment resistin, adiponectin, leptin, interleukin (IL) 6 (IL-6), IL-10, IL-15, prostaglandin (PGE2), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-±), C-reactive protein (CRP), cortisol, testosterone, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK) and complete blood count will be analyzed. The CT program will be composed of both strength (6 exercises/3X10 repetitions/1 minute rest between sets) and endurance (30 minutes walking or running at 50-85% of VO2max) training performed in the same session, three times per week and divided into three phases (E1, E2 and E3), each with eight weeks duration and different intensities. It is expected that the CT protocol can decrease the body fat and the inflammatory biomarkers. (AU)
