Abstract

The present project has the main objective of introduce the time domain terahertz spectroscopy in the participating research institutions. The time domain spectroscopy has enabled the exploitation of the spectral region in the frequency range 0.3 to 20 THz. With this technique, the spectroscopy can be accomplished in a wide spectral range, with simultaneous measurement of optical properties such as absorption coefficients and refractive index, and to access fundamental information, from the analytical point of view, of samples present in the solid, liquid and gaseous state. The analytical information can be correlated with low energy interaction effects between chemical species and also allow to observe the primary and secondary structure of the molecules in the level of large groups of atoms. In consequence, THz spectroscopy must play a relevant role in the advancement of several fundamental and technological research areas. The thematic project join together a group of researchers active in several areas of knowledge, sharing the vision that the THz spectroscopy can help the development of they current research lines and open new horizons for new themes, which will be enabled by the new spectrometric tool. Aiming at the consolidation and to exploitation of THz spectroscopy in they institutions, the group of researchers proposes: 1) The installation of a center for time domain THz spectroscopy in the Chemistry Institute of UNICAMP; 2) The development of specific research actions of national interest, sheltered under the theme time domain THz spectroscopy; 3) The development of actions aiming at the dissemination the technique in the São Paulo State and Brazil.
