Abstract

The Sm8 is a tegument protein from Schistosoma mansoni that cause Schistosomiasis. Studies show that there is cross-reactivity of this protein in mice activating the immune system against this parasite. In this project we will determine the tertiary structure of tegument protein (Sm8) in solution using NMR. With the knowledge of the structure of this protein we can make a better description of its function and provide input into the formulation of vaccines or drugs that may inhibit the growth of the parasite or even exterminate them in human hosts.
