Abstract

Homocysteine (Hcy) is considered an independent risk factor to cardiovascular disease. Last few years, cumulative evidences have been shown the relation between hyperhomocysteinemia and several diseases as neurodegenerative diseases, kidneys dysfunctions, diabetes and liver diseases. Recently, authors have shown the relation between increased Hcy concentration in the blood and several types of cancer. These researches suggested that the proliferation of tumor cells may impair methionine metabolism and increase Hcy concentration that may leads to increased cell toxicity and lipid peroxidation as well as cell damage. Due to the possible effects on physical performance, creatine has become a popular substance among amateur, professional and olimpic athletes. Now a days, authors have been received considerable attention in medial field, specially because of its therapeutically effects on neurodegenerative and muscle diseases. In addition, authors have shown the potential of creatine supplementation in decrease Hcy levels thought the methyl balance modulation, besides inhibits the formation of ROS indication antioxidant capacity of this substance. However, the disturbances in Hcy metabolism caused by cancer and the possible protect effect of creatine supplementation are poorly known. Thus the aim of the present project is investigate the effects of walker-256 bearing-rats on Hcy metabolism and oxidative stress as well as the effects of creatine supplementation. (AU)
