Abstract

Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is characterized by lesions that often have local invasion and lymph node metastasis. The development of locoregional recurrence is the main reason for treatment failure and the presence or absence of metastatic disease in cervical lymph nodes is the most important determinant in the therapy choice and in the determination of the patient prognosis. Thus, the correct staging of regional lymph node metastases is of paramount importance to the success of locoregional control of disease, response to treatment and thus influences the overall survival of these patients.Recent studies have shown that microRNAs are involved in regulating the process of tumor metastasis, acting in various signaling pathways involved in this process. Thus, this study aims to identify microRNAs that can be used as molecular markers associated with cervical metastasis in patients with HNSCC, enabling the development of a more sensitive, specific and rapid diagnosis of these metastases and a design more appropriate therapy to treat these patients.
