Abstract

Despite the fact that there are a few studies investigating the effects of different light sources on the tissue's dynamic, little is known about the action mechanism of cellular irradiation with light emitting diodes (LED) on the biomodulation of inflammation, especially for the pulp tissue. Thus, the aim of the present study will be to investigate the effect of an 855 nm wavelength LED (infrared) on pulp cells primary culture regarding the expression of inflammatory mediators. Primary culture of pulp cells will be obtained from human sound deciduous teeth (n=10). The cells will be stimulated with lipopolysaccharides (LPS) previous to the irradiation with LED in different doses of energy (0, 2, 4, 8, 15 or 30 J/cm2). Non-LPS stimulated groups irradiated with the same doses will be the controls. To evaluate the production of inflammatory cytokines, a 36-cytokine antibody array will be used. The more representative cytokines detected by the antibody array will be further quantified by using q-PCR. Statistical tests will be selected according to the type of response variable and the characteristics of the data set of each one of them. The factors of the study will be "dose of energy" and "LPS stimulation". The statistical inferences will be based at the 5% level of significance. (AU)
