Production and circulation of manuscript in Colonial Brazil: contributions to the history of the Portuguese Language

Abstract

This project has the objective of identifying how the colonial administration characterized production context and manuscript circulation in the 18th century. The second objective is to verify how much the knowledge of this contributes with the research of the Portuguese Language history, in addition to editing works that have been made in recent years. So allow, with greater certainty, the basis of assumptions about the writing of this period. Although there is a growing number of issues observed with rigor in the pursuit of accuracy and fidelity, work in the field of Philology and related sciences with attitude clearly marked by concern not to be losing any of the features of the original source in the act of transcription, taking into consideration the margin or annotations between the lines of documents should also take into account other factors such as the context of the production of documents selected for the job, its mode of transmission and circulation, to discern, for example, between originals and copies, in other word, between authors and copyists, to avoid misconceptions about the studied writing. Therefore, this project is seeking data enabling greater safety in the use of handwritten documents in public circulation in colonial Brazil, in order to provide reliable and consistent set to describe the English language in accordance with the various lines of description that follow.
