Evaluation of the obliteration and conductance hydraulic of the dentine tubules using sodium trimetaphosphate toothpaste: in vitro study

Abstract

The aim is analyze the in vitro action of TMP (conventional or nanoparticulate) associated with fluoride (F) toothpaste formulations in the obliteration of dentinal tubules and hydraulic conductance. Dentin blocks (4x4x2 mm) obtained from bovine teeth that have polished surfaces and no obliterated dentinal tubules will be made. The dentin blocks (n=120), randomly distributed, will be subjected to mechanical brushing with toothpaste: placebo (no F and no TMP), 1100 ppm F without TMP, 1100 ppm F associated with 3% TMP conventional, 1100 ppm F associated with 3% TMP nanoparticulate. This treatment is repeated twice a day for 7 days, with and without the acid challenge. At the end of the treatments will be analyzed mineral content, the obliteration of dentinal tubules using scanning electron microscopy, the identification and quantification of chemical elements present in the dentinal tubules deposits using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and dentin permeability. Statistical analysis will be considered as variables: the mineral content, obliteration of the dentinal tubules, the content of chemical elements and dentin conductance. The variation factor will be the toothpaste. After the tests of normality and homogeneity of variances, will apply appropriate statistical test (p<0.05). For the chemical elements the analysis will be only descriptive. (AU)
