Abstract

The objective of the present in vitro study will be to evaluate the ability of a fluoride (F) (200 ppm) reduced fluoride dentifrice formulation supplemented with sodium trimetaphosphate (TMP: 0.2%), Xylitol (X: 16%) and Erythritol (E: 4%) in reducing tooth enamel demineralization. Bovine blocks (n = 60) will be selected by means of the initial surface hardness (SHi) and then divided into 5 experimental groups (n = 12): 1) without F / TMP / Xylitol / Erythritol (Placebo); 2) dentifrice with 16% Xylitol and 4% Erythritol (XE); 3) dentifrice with 1100 ppm F (1100F); 4) Dentifrice with 200 ppm F, 0.2% TMP, 16% Xylitol and 4% Erythritol (200F + TMP + X + E) and 5) 200 ppm F dentifrice (without TMP, Xylitol and Erythritol (200F)). The blocks will be treated 2x / day with the dentifrices, being submitted to 5 pH cycling for 7 days. After the pH cycling, the final surface hardness (SHf) and the percentage of surface hardness loss (% SH) and integrated loss of subsurface hardness (”KHN) will be determined. The data will be submitted to the normality and homogeneity tests to use the statistical test most appropriate to the data distribution. Sigmaplot © software for Windows version 12.0 will be used with statistical significance at the 5% level.
