Abstract

Organophosphate pesticides are very effective , widely used , and pose great risk to the environment and health of many organisms , including humans. Dichlorvos (DDVP) is an organophosphate pesticides and these have mutagenic and carcinogenic potential for humans. Many pesticides, such as DDVP, act as endocrine disruptors, may alter endocrine homeostasis. These compounds act via the androgen receptor (AR) or via estrogen receptors (ER) promoting endocrine and reproductive disorders such as prostate cancer. Both androgens and estrogens are closely linked to the control mechanisms of cell proliferation and death that control normal prostate growth, changes in expression and activity of ARs and ERs, are essential for understanding the process of carcinogenesis in the prostate. Thus, the present study aims to evaluate the expression of AR and ER subtypes (ER-±: ER estrogen receptor alpha; ER-²: estrogen receptor beta) in the rat prostate subjected to chemically induced by MNU associated with pesticide dichlorvos.
