Development of time domain NMR spectrometers and methods for chemical analyses in field

Abstract

In the last 15 years, the Embrapa Instrumentation NMR group has been developing time domain NMR (TD-NMR) instrumentation and methods for physical and chemical analyses of food, fuels, polymers and monitoring of electrochemical polymerization and transesterification reactions, among many other laboratory applications. Therefore, this project aims to develop a portable TD-NMR spectrometer for field analysis. For this, we intend to acquire a portable NMR console, which includes all the electronics and comes in an aluminum case and weighs about 22 kg. The permanent magnet and the NMR probe, called NMR sensor, will be developed in the project to have up to 3 Kg. After laboratory validation, the instrument will be evaluated for field analysis, to measure water / fat in animals and plants, foods such as fresh fruits, nuts and industrialized foods. (AU)
