Diabetes can lead to dysfunction of the secretory capacity in salivary glands and impairs tissue repair. The low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has been applied clinically for treatment of salivary glands dysfunction as xerostomia and Sjogren's syndrome as well as for wound healing. However, the underlying mechanism of laser therapy action and the dosimetric protocols are poorly studied and largely unknown. Thus, this study will be subdived into two, where the first study will analyze the action mechanism of LLLT upon salivary glands of diabetic animals, through biochemical, molecular biology and histological analyzes and, the second study, will observe the effect of dosimetric parameters, such as dose, frequency, method of energy delivery and presence or absence of disease; upon skin wound healing of diabetic animals, through molecular biology, histological and biomechanical analyzes. The Analysis of Variance and Tukey test will be performed to analyze the results, considering the level of significance at 5%. (AU)
