Abstract

The Brazilian School Nutrition Program (PNAE) is one of the oldest programs in Brazil's food and nutrition security area, with national coverage, attends all students enrolled in public schools in Brazil. In this context, it should be offered a healthy, with a variety, security, according to age and health status in order to contribute to the growth and development of students. Therefore, it is critical that school consume the meals offered. Aim: To evaluate the consumption of food offered in public schools in Brazil and associated factors and analyze the eating habits of the students who eat school meals, according to the National Adolescent School-based Health Survey (PeNSE). Methods: Data of PeNSE performed in 2012 will be used, with public school students in the 9th grade of elementary school, in Brazil. The primary variable of interest is the consumption of school meals. Sociodemographic characteristics and eating behavior of students will be analyzed. Data analysis will be performed to characterize the students in relation to sociodemographic characteristics, eating behavior and analyzed the frequencies of food consumption. To evaluate the difference between the students who consume and do not consume the meal at school will be make the chi-square test of Pearson. For association analyzes between consuming of school meal and sociodemographic characteristics will be performed univariate and multiple tests by using Poisson regression and association analyzes between eating behavior and frequencies of food consumption and consume of school meals, adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics, will be conducted through multinomial regression.
