Abstract

The use of bacterial cellulose has a wide variety of applications due to their physical and chemical properties that give it excellent versatility. In medicine, their multifunctionality include temporary replacement of epithelial tissue in burns cases, ulcers, lesions or grafts, such as artificial blood vessels, as biologic curative for antibiotics and other drugs delivery and acting as a physical barrier to pathogens infections, in bone regeneration, among other applications.The tissue repair of the skin may be complicated by a number of factors, such as nutritional deficiency, diabetes, smoking, extent and location of injury or others cases in which the use of biomaterials that act as supports or substitutes that assist to accelerate the repair and healing processes, is a necessity.The RGD peptide sequence is found in many proteins of extracellular matrix (ECM), and is widely used to promote cell adhesion mediated by integrins in biomaterials due their wide distribution in the body and its ability to act in various cell adhesion receptors.Thus, this work is to develop a high-quality biomaterial by functionalization of bacterial cellulose with peptides containing the RGD sequence, to study its capacity to stimulate the adhesion and proliferation of fibroblasts, in order that it can be used in skin tissue regeneration.
