Abstract
Nowadays, the development of rapid, simple and inexpensive analytical methods is of growing interest, especially since fast decisions are often needed in the medical diagnostic, and forensic, environmental, and industrial chemistry field. In addition, in the development of a new analytical method the amounts and toxicities of the reagents used, and the wastes produced, are as important as any other analytical feature. Spot tests using microfluidic-paper platform, coupled with diffuse reflectance spectroscopy or digital images, minimize use of reagents/solvents makes them very useful for the development of analytical methods that address the notion of Green Chemistry. The use of filter paper platform provides a good surface for spot tests, is very inexpensive, and is manufactured from renewable and recyclable resources.In this study we intend to continue the activities of the research group investigate the development of environmental friendly method by spot test/reflectance detection using paper-based microfluidic devices and/or other paper-based detection platforms with the goal to improve the detection limit and sensitivity for clinical and diagnostic, forensic, and food analysis applications. Paper-based microfluidic devices or other paper-based platforms are emerging fields of research. (AU)
