Abstract
Healing of chronic wounds is still a medicine challenge, since these processes require a long healing time and, in some cases, can present complications, resulting in amputation. The development of dressings that promote a fast healing, avoid infections and provide adequate moisture, minimizing patient pain, is necessary. Furthermore, the incorporation of active compounds that promote a fast healing and that present analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect directly in the wound is even more interesting. In this project, we propose the development of membranes of natural polymers, in its pure form or in multilayers, that can act as controlled delivery devices and that can help in wound healing. From the scientific point of view, it will be studied the process of membrane preparation, the interactions among polymers (chitosan, alginate and fibroin) and the model drug (diclofenac sodium) influence on physical, chemical and biological properties of the membranes, as well as the kinetic study and the mechanisms involved on the release of drugs. It is expected to develop platforms to act in the controlled release of drugs in high performance wound dressings. (AU)
