MAIZE SYNTHETIC EVALUATION FOR RESPONSE TO AZOSPIRILLUM BRASILENSE

Abstract

Nitrogen is one of the most used nutrients in maize production, increasing the cost of production and contaminating the environment. Maize inoculation with Azospirillum spp. it has been practiced, with increases in productivity and in many characters. The objective of this research is to evaluate maize synthetics as the response to Azospirillum brasilense. For this, 12 synthetic broad-based and 36 restricted-based and a commercial hybrid maize will be evaluated in the second crop 2018 and first crop 2018/2019 in Jaboticabal-SP in the simple lattice (7 x 7) design, being installed on the same area two experiments for each sowing time, one without performing nitrogen topdressing and inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense and the other with nitrogen topdressing and without application of Azospirillum brasilense. The evaluated characteristics will be days to anthesis and silking, plant and ear height, ear placement, plant lodging and grain yield, carrying out individual and joint analyzes of variance and complementing with range tests. Also, for each sowing, character and genotype, the efficiency in the response to inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense for each synthetic will be obtained, contrasting data from the two experiments, the same principles used to estimate the efficient use of nutrients. With these analyzes will be possible to identify the most responsive synthetic to the Azospirillum brasilense, ie with the greatest number of genes / alleles for an efficient association with the microorganism. This project represents the beginning of a long-term designed to work, seeking to develop maize genotypes that are responsive to inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense. After this initial stage, with the identification and selection of synthetic that associate efficiently with the microorganism, appropriate methods of breeding will be applied, allowing the development of varieties and hybrids that respond positively to Azospirillum brasilense, which may contribute to reduce the use of nitrogen in agriculture.
