Abstract
This proposal is for the implementation of a National Institute with the clear objective of to continue performing fundamental science, but mainly to create a national network with high power to translate science and scientific skills in product and processes of high technological content in Optics. The main focus will be in the area of health and agriculture. Using the basic knowledge that we produce through several ongoing projects, or already finished, and our innovation experience, we want to give relevance to them, creating solutions, involving optics for diverse problems of these strategic areas. The problems to be target are in 4 lines: applications for the human health diagnosis, applications in biostimulation, applications for human health treatment, and applications for agro-environment. These platforms will be established with the support of the basic sciences and a collaborative environment with the productive sector. In our aims there is the establishment of diverse platforms of new and revolutionary technologies, using optics as the main element. To achieve the planned objectives, we are proposing an elaborated network with multidisciplinary expertise including partnerships between Institutes and strong international collaborations. Partnerships with industries will fulfill the budget for this accomplishment, and assure the success of translating the developments in real benefits for our society. Each topic is composed by several sub-projects, all inter-connected in a program that should promote an excellent scientific environment of high motivation to include the young researchers and students in this research field. The project conjugates several Brazilian institutions, different backgrounds and skills and it is bold in the sense of truly visualize relevant science and responsibility to push technology. These proposal 58 researchers, 18 institutions, over 15 International collaborations, 13 associated industries, and a high number of students and postdoctoral fellows. There is a good amount of counterpart coming from projects with industries, and from the ongoing CEPID-CEPOF program (that will give a high support especially to the basic and fundamental sciences in development), as well as from the host institution. Our project represents the continuity to a successful program with different financial supports and that find in this proposal the opportunity to create a strong network of knowledge translation in technology.
