Abstract This project aims at characterizing the contributions of a collaborative learning group to the development of clinical reasoning in Occupational Therapy new practitioners. Clinical reasoning processes are the basis of practice in Occupational Therapy and they are anchored in Donald Schön's Practical Racionality Epistemology, in which the practitioner can build knowledge-in-pratice in complex and singular situations. Therefore, the clinical reasoning processes are dynamical in nature and change during the professional career. To promote the development of clinical reasoning, lots of educational strategies are currently in use, e.g. mentory programs, that fit in a collaborative learning framework. In this approach, knowledge is produced when people carry on their lives and participate with others in making sense of their experiences. This strategy helps research subjects becoming investigators of their own practice. Thus, we will implement an action-research by the creation of a one-year long mentory program embedded in a collaborative learning framework, with four Occupational Therapy new practitioners (research subjects), coordinated by the researcher, to study the contribution of the collaborative learning group and other educational tools (reflexive journals, portfolios) to the development of clinical reasoning of occupational therapy new practitioners. The Narrative framework will be used to probe the practitioners reasoning about practice, and to stimulate the reflection-on-action processes. The initials frameworks for data analysis are Clinical Reasoning Theories in Occupational Therapy, Practice Community and Participant Frameworks and Group Processes. | |
