Abstract

School violence in Brazilian schools is a huge problem and there is the need development of school violence scientific prevention programs, which are scorsce. Scientific prevention programs are those where there is a needs assessment to reduce the problem, evaluation of the theory behind the program, assessment of its process or monitoring and evaluation of its impact. Internationally, there are reviews of preventive programs that are useful to the development of a Brazilian program. This project aims to conduct two studies. Study 1 will propose a school violence prevention program, and will evaluate its theory. For this objective, a systematic literature review will be conducted which will analyze: (a) existing meta-analysis of aggressive children preventive programs, (b) Brazilian preventive programs in Psychology and Educational journals, and (c) manuals and research reports of organizations related to violence prevention. Study 2 will implement the program, evaluating participants selection and the retention, the procedures utilized and the efficacy in diminishing school violence. The program developed in study 1 will be implemented in two schools located in São Carlos, state of São Paulo, Brazil. Grades 5th to 8th public teachers will participate of the program in weekly meetings during 5 months. The schools will not receive the intervention at the same moment, because one will be in a experimental condition while the other will be a wait control group. Subsequently, the program will be applied in the second school. Evaluations before, during and after the intervention will be conducted with multiple instruments.
