Abstract

This project proposes to standardize herbal medicines to treat chronic diseases more prevalent in the Brazilian population: gastrointestinal (ulcers) and inflammation. Extracts are prepared according to pharmacopoeial standards and evaluated by pharmacological aspects (ulcers and inflammation) and toxicological (acute and chronic). The extracts will be tested to assess the potential anti-inflammatory and antiulcerogenic in animal models. Plants that have a potential activity will be evaluated in step Pharmacognostic. The aim is to use the usual chromatographic techniques, especially those for polar substances (HPLC), and the structural determination by spectroscopic methods and spectroscopic (MS, UV, IR and NMR). The information obtained from this step will subsidize the pharmacological activity for the development of protocols for quality control of raw vegetable. In step pharmacobotany tests must be made to seek the knowledge of the chemical characteristics and plant species under study, aiming at the development of standardized protocols for quality control of crops for human use. Were pre-selected species Arrabidaea brachypoda (DC.) Bureau and Arrabidaea florida (A. DC.) (Bignoniaceae), since species of this genus have shown satisfactory results especially in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. The most promising extracts are standardized according to international standards. The work will be interdisciplinary, with participants from several campuses of UNESP (Institute of Chemistry of Araraquara, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Araraquara, Institute of Biosciences of Botucatu) and Federal University of Alfenas, consolidating a network chemical pharmacology.
