Abstract

Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) interpreters/translators mediate the communication in Libras and Portuguese in ambulatory service. During their professional action, they place themselves between different cultures, that of the deaf community and the listening teams, being prone to facing ethical problems at any time, therefore requiring decision-making and positioning on these issues. Their incorporation in the process intends to inform deaf patients so that they can decide in autonomous way, preserving clear communication and respecting their right to information and their privacy. The objective is to identify and analyze ethically the decisions made and justifications given by professional translators / interpreters in face of in hypothetical and experienced ethical problems in health services for the care of deaf patients. This is a qualitative, exploratory and analytical-descriptive research. Professional translators/interpreters will be interviewed about hypothetical and experienced situations. They should expose the ethical problems that they recognize or express their opinions about those who can conform to the health service. The sample size will be determined by the point of data saturation. The results will be processed by content analysis and from theoretical bioethics reference and the analytic categories: autonomy/paternalism, communication /information and privacy rights.
