Abstract

The project goal is the development and study of composite polymer/ceramic, with potential for application as multifunctional sensor to be used for converting mechanical energy into electrical energy and emit light. For the composite preparation, different ceramics powders with perovskite structure doped with rare-earth europium will be prepared in order to establish the optimization of the piezoelectric and luminescent properties. These powders, with the polymer poly vinylidene fluoride, form the composite films. The ceramic powders will be characterized by X-ray diffraction (DRX) and scanning electron microscopy with high resolution (FEG/MEV). Aiming to investigate the influence of europium materials, reflectance in the ultraviolet and visible (UV-Vis) and photoluminescence (FL) techniques will be used. To study the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the composite will be measured; conductivity, polarization, the longitudinal piezoelectric coefficient (d33) and will be obtained hysteresis curves. Raman Spectroscopy (FT-Raman) will be used to speculate a possible presence of carbonates and to characterize the configurations of the polymer composites. Measures of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) will bring information about the topology of the films.
