Abstract

The species of marsupial frogs of genus Fritziana (family Hemiphractidae) present nocturnal habits and are associated with humid forests where there bromeliads or bamboos. The genus contains three species distributed in mountainous regions of the Brazilian Atlantic rain forest. They are: Fritziana fissilis, F. goeldii and F. ohausi.The deficiency of the original descriptions, the small number of specimens in taxonomic collections and the difficult access to the type material makes several specimens stay without identification to species level on collections, which also occurs in species list.Just a little of its biology, distribution and taxonomy is known, being probable that the genus contain species not described yet. The overlap of morphological characters among species also difficult the identification of specimens and the recognition and description of possible new lineages.This research intends to make a taxonomic review of the genus, with the aim of: 1) analyze the described species of the genus, looking for an accurate diagnosis for each one; 2) make taxonomic and nomenclatural accounts, describing the new species; and 3) perform a taxonomic and phylogenetic analysis based on molecular characters.
