Abstract

This is a subproject that aims to verify how far women who pass through an abortion are supported by health professionals in their reproductive planning both during and a month after their hospitalization. This approach is justified by the perspective of consolidating sexual and reproductive rights, especially because a 2005 technical norm of Brazilian Ministry of Health recommends that contraceptive methods should be offered still during the immediate post-abortion care in order to avoid contraceptive vulnerabilities in a moment that becoming pregnant before desired or before achieving good physical condition can be a risk. This is a longitudinal study that is being conducted from May 2011 with all women hospitalized due to abortion at the Hospital Maternidade Leonor Mendes de Barros, Brazil. They are being invited to answer a structured questionnaire (Momentum 0) and to answer phone interview 30 days after the hospitalization (Momentum 1). Questionnaires are about sociodemographic features, reproductive history, contraceptive use and participation in educational groups. We chose not to question women directly about the abortion etiology as we know it might result in underestimated data. Statistical analysis will be done using proportions, means and Qui-square test.
