Abstract

With this research we aim to raise higher and classify the actions and policies present or arising out of the first two National Development Plans (PNDs) that resulted in interventions or programs that have benefited or been bound for medium-sized cities. Data plans will be sought, specifically, to identify which medium-sized cities (or intermediate cities, as the plan document or analyzed) were taken as the focus of proposed actions. These data will be organized into summary tables and analytical texts and cartography will be represented. In a second phase of this investigation will be thorough studies on these plans in the intermediate cities of Itajaí (SC), Londrina (PR), Marília and São José do Rio Preto (SP) and Mossoró (RN). With these studies, we will try to cross the information contained in national economic and demographic data that can show changes in the demographic dynamics, social and economic of these cities that may be related to policies, programs and actions of those plans. This study will be represented by summary tables and essays that will subsidize the construction of hypotheses, which may be investigated and developed in other research related to this. This research will also be possible to evaluate how the Intermediate City term appears in official documents that make up such plans and how and when the term mid-sized cities replaced. This is a small contribution to the discussion of both conceptual terms.
