Abstract In the impulse of progress in Brazil Empire of the nineteenth century, past some failed attempts, arises in Brazil the first railway, symbols of modernity. In this sense, the farmers of the interior of the province of Sao Paulo are investing in the creation of railway companies private individuals to fulfill their need for disposal of their products to the capital and to the port of Santos. Thus, appears in 1875, the Sorocabana Railway, our object of research. However, this railway is replaced by changes, being expropriated by the Union in 1904 and passed to the government of São Paulo. Already in 1907 and rented by Percival Faquhar, assuming characteristics of forming urban center. However, the years that it is under private administration, 1907 to 1919, are tumultuous, returning to the hands of the State. Seen this, gets explicit our concern that, through the reports them of Provincial President, the Ministries of Agriculture, Industry, Transport and Public Works, beyond of others involving our object in this particular administration, we will seek analyze these changes since the year in 1907, becoming a private company by the end of the grant, in 1919 in order to chart outlines the operation of the railway company and how this private firm acted for the formation socio-cultural and structural the São Paulo countryside and its possible involvement in government guidelines. | |
