Abstract

The Alternating Current Biosusceptometry (BAC) is a low cost biomagnetic technique, versatile, easy to use and free of ionizing radiation that, until now, has always been used in studies involving the gastrointestinal tract (GI). It has high sensitivity reasonable measures in vivo (animal and human) and operates through induction coils detect the presence of material with high magnetic susceptibility. In several studies, BAC showed enough accuracy to assess, since gastric emptying and gastrointestinal transit through measures culminating in the gastric and intestinal contractions activity, and produce good results in evaluation of solid dosage forms. In all these studies were used magnetic particles (ferrites) in size of 50 micrometers. With the development of nano structured magnetic materials which have high magnetic susceptibility and coatings safe (inert), became possible to use the biosusceptometry system associated with magnetic nano fluid. This proposal seeks to employ this methodology to evaluate the GI transit time, kidney clearance and liver function through animal experiments (rats) in physiological situations, since the nano magnetic fluid intake until their absorption and passage through these organs and by intravenous infusion, performing dynamic imaging of the kidneys and liver. We also intend to employ multi BAC sensors to assess the dynamics of these particles in blood flow (heart). These studies may contribute to new biomedical instrumentation for analysis of the functions of these systems and / or agencies contributing to the scientific and technological development of new diagnostic and imaging records.
