Abstract

The Leme city, located in São Paulo state, more specifically, its urban center commercial, comes with intense transformation of its urban landscape due to the modernization of trade, related to changes in the circuits of the urban economy(Santos, 1972). There was a significant increase in establishments located in the loop of modern economy (upper circuit). In this context, there is an adversarial process in which the lower circuit is perpetuated, also showing significant growth. That is, the circuit is not modern plays in the interstices of the ongoing process of modernization in a society that moves between these two poles: modernity and it sabsence as constitutive of the conflicting parties and socio-spatial content of the Leme city, expressed in its urban landscape. This is a trend of small and medium cities in São Paulo State, the example of the profound changes already processed in the urban landscape of cities like Sorocaba. In this regard, marks the continuation of this research at the graduate, a comparative study of the urban landscape transformations related to the modernization of the circuits of urban economy of São Paulo.
