Analysis of the relations between nutrient intake and waist circumference of children in the city of Santos

Abstract

Introduction: the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases in the world is concerning. Children, who are vulnerable in the development of their nutritional habits, end up choosing food with low density of micronutrients, which allows them to be more successful in having higher fat in the trunk area and chronic diseases. Factors such as the intake of sugars and saturated fat in excess interfere to a higher body fat accumulation, comprehending the abdominal body fat, and never forgetting that the environment in which the person is placed also has a great impact in this context. Goal: analyze the association of nutrients with the waist circumference of children, regardless of socioeconomic status and household in the city of Santos/SP. Methods: data were collected from 411 children in basic research, was assessed the nutritional status (weight, height, waist circumference and anthropometric indices), food consumption by 24 hours recall and socioeconomic variables. In this project, descriptive statistical analysis will be performed to characterize the nutrient intake and indicators of nutritional status and socioeconomic conditions as well as analysis of correlation between these variables. Will be used the software Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS v.18) and Epi Info (v.3.5.1). (AU)
